Feb. 11th: I planted this spearmint on my porch, mostly in hopes I'd get some spice value out of it.

My favorite part of the Governor's speech was the part where he said "We hear so much about climate change. One area where we definitely need the climate to change is the national government’s attitude about global warming. It would not act so California did. California has taken the leadership in moving the entire country beyond debate and denial… to action. As California goes, so goes the rest of the nation." I've taken that to mean 'we aren't waiting for leadership from Washington on the Climate Change issue.' I'm not sure what the "low carbon fuel standard" is all about, but I hope it means bicycling is an even more important part of the solution to our problems than it used to be. I'm glad he took the time to talk about this issue.

My main bone to pick with the media was in that summary. What I heard was that the Governor himself was calling for "post-partisanship" the media interpreting that as "Bipartisanship" is a slap in the face to the grass roots. If you search on the word "part" in the actual speech transcript, you get to "I ask you to appropriate the funds to implement this global warming legislation, so that we can become part of the world market that is already trading credits for the reduction of greenhouse gases. " long before you get to the word "party". My feeling is, when I as a car free individual can sell pollution offsets from my car free lifestyle on ebay to fuelish commuters for at least lunch money, then the grass roots will be part of the solution. Until then calls for "Bipartisanship" are just rearranging deck chairs on the titanic!
