Mountain View has
gentrification problems to, but we don't have the (something) to put up
posters about it.
Not the kind of
advertising I'm used to seeing on the side of a bus shelter. In Santa
Clara County, that spot would probably be taken by a movie, real
estate, fashion, or cell phone ad.
That guy hiding in
the bushes made a lot of people jump as they went by. About thirty
yards down the sidewalk there was a gaggle of people loitering. Every
now and then somebody would get very startled by a growl from the
bushes, and the crowd would erupt in laughter. Sometimes one of them
would drop money in the white bucket before wandering off. I took
several pictures before putting my change in the bucket. When I'd tried
to do the same thing in New Orleans, the performers would give me guff
if I didn't pay before taking pictures. My feeling is this guy deserves
every cent he gets!
The main reason I
went to SF was to take the pictures you can see by clicking on the
Boston Tea Party art above.
After the Tea Party I
wandered around playing tourist for a while before heading for Barry's
party. I stopped at the Tennessee Grill for supper on the way, mostly
to get out of the cold for an hour or so on the way. It turned out to
be a really good place to eat cheap white guy food. If you find
yourself near 21st and Taraval, I'd say eat there.
