The Mauk Store had a
little of this and a little of that. Lots of cold beverages, basics
like bread, SPAM, and two kinds of hot sauce. Five kinds of beef jerky,
bread,
and corn chips. Home cut cheddar cheese slices in cling wrap
priced by weight on the counter. A display full of such
products as doe urine for hunters. In the back was an assortment of
fence mending, electrical conduit, and other hardware items. The only
reading matter they had was the Columbus newspaper, fifty cents in the
newspaper vending box outside. Every time I went in there the same guy
was behind the counter, and there was always a football game on the TV.
I'd say this store is his life.
