Conservation as a Solution to Global Warming
The climate solutions debate is an opportunity to raise conservation as a key and immediate response to global warming...it is the low hanging fruit. Instead, the debate has been hijacked by the energy corporations who profit from their concessions, the politicians who serve the corporations, and the major environmental organizations who legitimize the whole show. The debate is framed by corporate interests to be a debate about alternative technologies - which portion of their portfolio will receive the latest and greatest public subsidies.
Conservation biologist Roger Harris works for an employee-owned environmental consulting firm on endangered species, wetlands, and native habitat restoration. He will give a lively PowerPoint presentation on the basic science based on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and raise some political questions on how to respond to the challenge.
