When I got there
Chris Welch was speaking. It was a funny experience to see somebody
standing in the bed of a truck sounding like my radio. The crowd was
slowly building. There were already at least a hundred people milling
around. There was lots of networking going on.
The speakers were
mostly saying negative things about US support for Israel in their
current war against Lebanon. The farmworkers, on the other hand had
just been locked out of their jobs by Charles Krug / Mondavi
/ CK Mondavi vineyards. They were asking everybody to stop
getting
those wines. It was heartbreaking to hear how cold and ruthless the
company's behavior is.
There were at least
half a dozen farmworkers there. These were just the easiest grouping to
photograph.
