I wasn't up for
spending an hour on the light rail after the party. I
rode home. It seemed like a waste of the effort to take my bike down
there
to do anything else. I passed lots of Americana before I got to
something that made me pull out my camera.
In Korea-Town (a couple of blocks of
Korean businesses) they had this "innovativebank" a dentist and a
(the?) newspaper all in one building with about eight parking spaces
out front.
An un-car dealer. What's that? Whatever
it is, stealing the slogan off the greenback seems to help them do
business. Maybe they are making it rough for the used car dealers in
Mountain View. Their lots have been looking very bare lately. This
place at least had product to move.
That Starving Musician was there the
first time I remember going down El Camino gawking. Maybe the paint job
has been updated a couple of times, but it's the same business. I never
hear them advertising on the radio, whatever that means.
What's Chocolate Sushi? The concept is
so funny I'm tempted to go all the way down there to eat sometime.
I saw lots of mainstream burger joints,
lots of ethnic restaurants, and lots of unlit businesses. I saw ONE
sign for an American Diner. I hope it's a sit down place with plastic
coated menus full of stuff like chicken soup, grilled cheese
sandwiches, succotash, meatloaf, and pumpkin pie (a la mode for a
dollar or two more). Pancakes and omelette's till noon. I imagine
Formica tables in padded booths. If it was in Virginia the waitress
would probably smoke or chew gum while she took your order.
I'd like to nominate this bike rack in
the bike path channel between the end of W. Washington in Sunnyvale and
E. Dana in Mountain View for a "stupid placement for an urban
accessory" award. I almost hit it the first time I saw it. I dread to
think what going through that channel would be like if somebody parked
their bike there and somebody else wanted to go the other way when I
went through. Maybe Sunnyvalers don't ride much because their city
thinks that kind of thing "helps".
