There was lots of hype about the
"march agains Monsanto" on facebook. I got invited to marches in
San Francisco, San Jose, and Sacramento. I picked the San Jose one
because it was the most local one. I got there early enough that I
could take pictures of people before things got crazy. Lots of us
had made one of a kind signs. Lots of art there!
I think one of those people in
beekeeping outfits really is a bee keeper.
The back of that "DANGER GE" sign
was a couple of fliers. You can read those by clicking on the
picture.
Joyce Eden explained that we would
be marching down to Cesar Chavez Plaza and then to city hall for a
rally at he end. She also wanted us to know that there are lots of
reasons to be opposed to GMO crops. Things like it could be that
the current epidemic of "leaky guts" people are dealing with could
be connected to the new GMO crops they are eating in mass produced
foods.
Monsanto brought us DDT, Agent
Orange, and BGH. Does it make sense to trust them with our food
supply?
About then we started marching.
Mostly I remember conversation and the drumming of the corn
activists. It wasn't one of those marches where there is lots of
loud angry chanting.
The drummers did a good job! By this
time we were almost there...
Barry Chang was the only real
politician that talked to us. The rest of the speakers were
community activists with axes to grind.
Joyce mentioned that we were part of
millions of people participating in similar marches all over the
planet.
Food Not Bombs fed everybody that
wanted it eggplant over rice with salad. I enjoyed the food to.
