UC Berkeley wants to cut down these trees and put up a building where they are. To prevent construction, there were people sitting in the trees 24 hours a day since construction had been scheduled to start. They must have been three stories up in the air.

These people were mostly there as ground support for the people in the trees. That consisted mostly of hanging out and talking about whatever. I tried to talk to one young woman and she gave me a purple pocket fluff and a green guitar pick. Then she walked away.

Vernon and Michele had wanted to come up there to talk to Zack, who is important to the operation. Everybody there knew him, but nobody was sure when he would be around. We decided to go eat and come back later, hoping he would be around then. It turned out that he tracked us down in the restaurant, a much warmer and dryer place to spend time talking.
