I heard there was going to be a
Black Lives Matter thing at the County Building. I decided to show
up with my camera.
There were quite a few witnesses
gathered around the speaker that was loud enough to hear from the
street.
Raj from DeBug explained that we
have quite a sequence of speakers. Hopefully the District Attorney
will come down to speak with us at some point.
The woman that spoke next explained
that her husband had been killed by the cops. He had been off his
meds and quite hyper. They had heard something unfortunate and
shot him. She said "He was a nice guy. He'd never do something
like that."
The preacher explained that we are
part of a bigger struggle that is going on from here to Oakland to
Ferguson Missouri to all points east and everywhere else the
cops are exploiting the people.
The guy in blue gave a blow by blow
of the time he was pulled over for a dead tail light and then was
beaten by the cops at the side of the road.
Raj cut in to announce the DA had
come down to listen to the mother read the letter and accept
delivery of the 13,200 petitions we'd gathered signatures for.
I remember the DA giving her a
personal apology for the behavior of his officers. He also
promised to look into the matter further.
They played the footage of the cops
beating the guy on the wall as soon as it was dark enough.
Soon enough we marched over to the
Police Building...
This time the Chief of Police came
down and talked to us.
Again we saw that guy beaten by the
police.
Somebody else that had lost a son to
trigger happy police talked about what happened. Then the victims
sister talked about missing her brother.
Then the preacher reminded us that
we are part of a long term struggle. He invited us to get on the
list to be informed of further upcoming events.
Somewhere in there they projected
Officer White's words on the side of the building. Then a few days
later I saw the following article in the paper.
