Weather was perfect for bike party. The theme this month was Loteria. Didn't know much about it at all. Took my camera out of a sense of obligation. Amy said I could be on theme by bringing my fish kite as "El Pescado". Out of good intentions I was going to get a deck of loteria cards, but that didn't happen. Too busy with other things.
Started by taking pictures of what drew my eye. Before long I learned that Loteria is a big thing for Mexicans. Big enough that the shirts are popular and probably always had been.
These were new, but a lot of the other ones people wore weren't.
Usually when I see pictures of Eleni and PeiMei online she is floating up by his hand. They tried to recreate the shot for me, but my camera was too clumsy. A blurry shot of her going up and another one of her floating near the top of her arc were the best I could do. He said they get the usual shot by filming the whole thing and picking the best frame to share. Not an option for me.
La Esquina is "the corner" in Portugese and Spanish. Doesn't take much imagination to see them as the pair on the corner in the graphic.
I asked the skeleton if I could take her picture. She said "Only if my friends are in it."
Somewhere out there is Matt's picture of me with a river (or is it a galaxy?) of bike party riders behind me. Behind him, the couple on the corner is doing their corner.
You can tell by the feet on the ground that the people who have gotten near enough to the line are waiting for the light to change.
Some guy was driving this car around the parking lot.
Thank you Ed for fixing flats and riding the Raven trike! There were only two trikes out this month. Probably that means they need more volunteers to keep it going! If you can push a heavy trike full of trash from the second regroup to the correct dumpster, by all means talk to Ed.
Didn't even know that Rosie the Riveter was a loteria card.
Julie had a lot of loteria cards on her bike. Fish, umbrella, and boots were among them. Not shown is her star.
Looking back on it later, I must have missed some really good theme participation. Jarek did a photo booth, and that set of pictures is totally worth seeing! (
Click here to see those.) Didn't see that setup at all. There were other things I missed to, but I was happy hanging with Jenn.
