The occasion was a goodbye party for
John, who is leaving. Since he has been one of the bike party birds
that everybody knew forever, we all got together to honor his leaving
with a good party.
Later in the evening John told me that
he has decided to go into business in Chico as a bike mechanic. He has
a pop-up tent and a complete bike repair shop that fits onto the back
of a Surly Big Dummy bike. He showed me pictures of the setup, it was
the kind of thing you could set up in three parking spots or something
like that. A totally portable business based in the power of the guys
body and mind. Among the people I know, John is the best best bike
mechanic.
Back when the building was an
industrial cannery or something like that our party stage was a loading
dock. Now it's a nice porch with a five foot cliff just off the edge of
our comfort zone.
Jodi was our Artist in residence. We
needed her to get the spot. Thank you Jodi!
People were having a great time...
When I took these pictures the dancing
shoes were still coming out. Before I left we were really dancing up a
storm. We invented this new dance called "the bike party." You put your
hands out like they're on the handlebars. You put your feet like
they're on the pedals. Then you raise your butt off the seat and boogie
to the beat. Billy was showing us how it was done when my ride tapped
me on the ankle and told me the last ride to Mountain View was about to
leave. John's party was magically great!
