The train to San Francisco I needed to
catch for critical mass stopped in Mountain View at 4:58 PM. This being
a week after solstice, sundown happened before it got here.
I got up there and critical mass was
much smaller than usual. I wasn't going to take any pictures, just ride
for a long time. Then I saw this T shirt and had to photograph it. I
love that concept, "THE REVOLUTION WILL NOT BE NOTORIZED." The guy
wearing it said it had been put out by the planning commission in some
small north bay town whose name I forgot. Fairfax maybe.
Quite a few of the riders were outfitted to provide music. Two in
particular had great sound systems on their bikes. The bald guy above
was one. Just look at the size of the speakers on his trailer. He was
really working hard to give the rest of us free music. I was struggling
just to pedal my own butt up the hills, and I wasn't carrying 100 lbs.
of stereo gear plus batteries.
This guys bike is designed to carry
about 300 lbs of cargo. He said he uses it mainly to take home
groceries.
I saw this guy and I thought "is there
really a Shark whose name can be read as 'side real west'?"
This guy's sound system's brain was an
iPhone on the handle bars. He would touch the screen a few times and
another great song would come on. The last one I heard was a very
thought provoking one by the Black Eyed Peas. I think it was called
"Where's the Peace?" I'm going to see what I can do about hearing it
again.
The ride petered out around 8ish in an
area I wasn't familiar with. The two to the right of the huge christmas
tree escorted me to Civic Center Plaza. I know the way from there.
I passed this wreak again on the way to
the CalTrain station. Critical mass had passed it earlier. I remember
someone saying then "I'm really glad we had nothing to do with that."
