Once again the Keystone XL pipeline is up for a decision in Washington DC, and once again there was a vigil/rally type thing in Palo Alto to express opposition to that pipeline and the dirty fossil fuel consumption it represents. While people were gathering Brian gave me this flier:

Lisa was the MC. She explained that one Keystone XL roadblock that had recently been removed was a Nebraska court deciding to allow the pipeline. She introduced two guys from Nebraska who were going to tell us how they felt about it.

They said a lot of words, but what I remember was they were opposed to the pipeline, they were in the streets objecting to it, and it happened anyway. The struggle continues.

The young woman who spoke next was a representative of the Stanford student group that had gotten their school to divest from fossil fuel companies. When she said they had succeeded in doing that she got a big hand from all of us.

There was an opportunity to speak up. I told people "If we really want to cut the carbon dioxide out of our transportation system it's going to take a whole lot of people getting a whole lot more bicycle savvy. That's what bike party is all about. Our next ride is this Friday, starting at Meridian and Hamilton in San Jose. We've been at this for years, so come on down! You'll have a great time." Then Brian thanked us all for participating in the event. Then he announced the "March for Real Climate Leadership" that is coming up Feb. 7th in Oakland. He is hoping all of us and a whole lot more other people will be there.

Then we posed for a group shot. After that there was a bit of mixing and mingling before we went our separate ways.
