This was the first picture I took when we got to the park where people were assembling. It was a bit chilly, but you could tell it was going to get nice. Lots of people had smiles on their faces. In the background somebody was making outraged noizes on a bullhorn from the bed of a pickup truck, and there were some people eating it up. Mostly the area was full of people chatting and having a good time.

After a while the march got under way...

Holy Code Pink Batman! It's Rebecca at Large and her entourage...

The woman with the gray R on her shirt explained to me that the sign she and her friend carried meant "NO WAR".

I remember meeting this woman in a CODE PINK shirt during my Sacramento days. She used to wear these very 50s glasses frames with no lenses that messed with my mind. When I was at AOL I considered that memory to be the image of transparency in Government. I talked to her briefly at the KPFA lockout, which she was covering as a real journalist. Judging by the company she keeps, it looks like she is now a high powered progressive.

The slogan on the right picture is "America's tax dollars at work..." The guy carrying the bag just wanted to make sure people know whats going on.

That California Poppy could have been the smallest sign I saw all day.

The woman on the left was at a table where they were spreading the word about police brutality. I talked to her a little and she gave off deeply unhappy vibes.

On my way home at the end of the day, I found myself pondering how much soul there is in Oakland...
