The Mountain View Voices for Peace spent
Tax Day '05 informing people at the Mountain View Post Office about
where their taxes were going as they dropped off their forms. There was
a steady stream of tax filers going into the building, and many of the
ones we gave something to on the way in stopped to talk on the way out.
Part of the display was this chart,
showing the breakdown of what the US Government does with $50 of our
money. I pointed out over and over again that the only thing that uses
more
than a quarter of the total is military spending.
This guy thought it was quite ironic
that Bush was on TV talking about Job Training as the sollution to our
unemployment problem when that absorbs a grand total of 0.4% (less than
half of one percent) of the
Federal Governement's spending.
I gave copies of this chart to a lot of people.
Every time we found someone else that didn't like this picture, we
asked them to sign a copy of the following letter:
Hopefully getting the pile we collected will make an impression on
the Congresswoman....
