I went to the mailbox on 10/3/04.
There I found this piece of junk mail. I got the Iowa quarter at the
California Bank & Trust near the corner of El Camino and Hope the
previous day, where I paid cash value for four of them. I remember
reading in Coin World that the picture of a one room schoolhouse after
an Arbor Day tree planting was painted by Grant Wood, one of the
State's
favorite sons. An Iowa Green told me that they had wanted to use
American Gothic, his most famous painting, but some New York firm that
owned the copyright wasn't willing to play ball with them. At any
rate, I don't remember reading the name of an artist on any other
circulating coins. I gave one of my four to Stephanie that evening.
