Do
people
ever say Tallahassee and mean Florida?
Feb. 23, 2016:
Back in the early part of my Orange County days I went out with a
woman who was very good at peeling oranges. She took pride in
getting the whole peel off in one piece. She got it right most of
the time. It was a beautiful thing to watch. She'd use a paring
knife, spinning the fruit with one hand and inching the blade
along the cut with the other. Before that I'd never thought about
peeling an orange as a game. Since then I've gotten fairly good at
doing it myself. I don't use a knife now any more than I did then,
but I've gotten a lot better at working with the grain of the
rind. Some types are almost impossible. Others are usually too
easy. These tangerines have a nice mix of qualities for that game.
