If this was the only recognition I got from the Leadership Mountain View experience, it would have been great. However, that was not to be. I had to run a gamut of dignitaries with gifts for me, most of which are shown below.
Mayor Pear himself gave me this and shook my hand as well. Later in the evening I even had my picture taken with the guy.
Neither Sally Lieber nor Joe Simitian were there in the flesh, but they both sent staffers. The guy from Sally Lieber's office hadn't met me before, and because of the excellent comments about my one minute talk in Stephanie Schaaf's speech, he tracked me down after the ceremony to hear it. Actually, a lot of people at the party were made curious by her comments. I'm wondering what the effect of broadcasting the ceremony is going to be...
Joe Simitian has the dictrict to the north of us. However, being a Palo Altan he is widely known in the City Beaureacracy, and one of the presenstations we got was Assemblymember Simitian's primer on how to loby Government Officials. The most important things from it were tips like "be polite" and explain to the incumbent what's in it for them to support your position on whatever it is.
When the woman from Anna Eshoo's Office shook my hand she said "one minute".
Of all the people who signed certificates I picked up at the ceremony, the only one I've never met is Senator John Vasconcellos.
The last thing I was given was a pen on a rope from Twana Karney herself. The Leadership Mountain View OSHA Aproved pen on a rope is a highly coveted chotchke.
This was given me by my LMV Classmates. We had fun making these for each other during the afternoon.
