This was the big day. The Governor had been asking for peaceful protest, and all the local activists were into it. The plan was to line El Camino from the Tesla dealership in Palo Alto to the Tesla dealership in Sunnyvale with people standing shoulder to shoulder in opposition to 47's wrongheaded Presidency.
At first glance it didn't seem like the kind of thing I'm used to. Then I saw a table over in the shade.
They told me to head towards Palo Alto. Find a spot where I was comfortable and enjoy the experience with those nearby.
The first thing I noticed was that the bike lane is MUCH nicer than it used to be. Plus the trees have grown to the point where many are very nice.
Then I realized the sidewalk on the other side of the street had lots of people on it.
The gaps in the line usually were things like crosswalks and intersecting streets. Nobody wanted to block traffic.
By this time I'd rolled past something like a fifth to an eighth of the whole route and was near the Palo Alto border. Decided I wanted to make a U turn and take a closer look at what was going on.
Many of the cars going by were honking a lot. There was much waving and smiling and a good time was had by many, many people. The tone felt like a joyful celebration of democracy.
Even Trump was there!
Stopped and talked to Lia for a bit. She quit riding with bike party when she had an accident at work the next day. It was just too much to get up early after such a busy evening again and again.
Cheri is doing okay. She hasn't left Mountain View yet, although that's still in the works. She wanted to take a picture of me on my bike.
There are about 181 more pictures to look at and consider adding to this page. I'm tired and other matters are pressing. I hope to come back and add to this page, despite the fact it's already huge and you probably get the general idea what we were saying. This message will change if I do that.
