Ideas from SteptItUp2007 on November 3 2007, in Mountain View
Stop drinking fancy bottled water to
save our groundwater
Get Costco MtView sample stations to
dispose of fewer plastics and foam utensils
It is not only about planting trees it
is also about caring for the ones we have.
Sign up to stop junk mail to your home
Eat less animal protein and increase
intake of plant proteins- beans, nuts, seeds, legumes.
City sponsored and public funded large
solar power generation stations.
People can buy into the system instead
of installing panels on their own houses. They would get a credit for
power generated and share in a part of rebates.
Place vegetable gardens and park space
in large developments, and enforce 'green' building codes for
city.
Light wells in large developments.
Guidelines and methods for renters to
get apartment complexes to make green improvements to their properties.
Ask local businesses to be Green
Certified.
Ban plastic bags and styrofoam
Compost bins for households
Retail stores should be giving out
paper, not plastic bags to customers.
More outlets for recycling plastic
bags.
Limit use of plastic water bottles and
get reusable ones to refill (Drinking Mountain View tap water builds
character!)
No Smoking in the Plaza! How about it
City Council?
Downtown supermarket, downtown dense
housing, WALK
Hang 50% of your laundry out to dry on
the clothesline
Use San Francisco as a model!
Turn off your lights!
Recommend a subject about Environmental
Sanitation in early curriculum for our children in schools (Roger
Asaido)
Reuse things before you recycle them:
Reduce waste, Reuse, Recycle, Rot (compost!) Zero waste!
Campaign and bumper stickers and
billboards to drive no faster than the speed limit. Maybe reduce speed
limits too.
Organic farms and gardens on city land!
Mandatory double pane glass windows in
all rental units in Mountain View
Bonds to provide loans for installing
residential solar systems- offset by tax asessment on home with solar-
this is what Berkeley is doing.
Bring your own takeout container for
restaurant leftovers- avoid styrofoam
Please do not send junk mail, or
advertisements to people. This stuff kills lots of trees.
