One thing I've learned is that
crossing the USA in one bus trip is painful. For one thing,
sitting for four days makes my feet swell up. This time I broke up
the trip with a stop in Kansas at an old friends house.
Probably should have done some sight
seeing or something, but didn't want to stop for too long. Got
dropped off at the Kansas City bus station the next day. Thank you
Robert!
The news for a long time had
featured "drought conditions in the Midwest", but it was still a
lot more green than the California I know.
I saw quite a bit of rain during
the next leg of the trip. The only memorable lightning flashes
were during the night while I crossed southern Illinois. That
was a light show!
For some reason Roanoke, VA seemed
to have the most interesting buildings that the bus drove past
on that route.
I spent a few days at my Dad's
house before going to the Green Party nominating convention.
From there I went back to my Dad's for a couple of days before
moving on to my brother's home.
I found this "sound bite" on the
headphones of the guy sitting in front of me on the bus
noteworthy. The guy was a teenager that was so busy ruining his
ears (I may be exaggerating about the sound levels a bit) he
didn't notice me taking this picture.
I left Blacksburg not long after
the Colorado movie theater shooting spree. It wasn't hard to
find a flag at half mast on the way to the bus station.
It was fun to get a picture at the
corner of State St. & Volunteer Parkway in the volunteer
state! The bus turned left not long after I took this picture.
What a coincidence. :-)
The bus stopped briefly in Johnson
City, TN. It was one of those stops that wasn't even long enough
for the smokers could get off and light up. The most notable
thing about the place was there there was a whole lot of nothing
going on there from what I could see.
The most
noteworthy thing that happened in Georgia was that my camera
died before I was done taking pictures.
