A barrage of emails about the coming of Alberto Gonzalez to Santa Clara's Mariott Hotel caused me to want to join the action. I filled my water bottle, grabbed my camera and headed down there.

It somehow makes sense that the Atorney General would be speaking across the street from the Great American Corporate Center.

In these circles AG Gonzalez is most known for writing the memo that the Bush Administration used to justify their medival behaviour.

The guy with the bullhorn was saying that if people don't speak out against what the Bush administration is doing they are accomplices to war crimes. The tone of his voice was frustrated, angry and determined to make a change, all at once.

Debra was doing an impression of a Guantanimo detainee who had been tortured. I wonder if they really do that much cowering....

There was an official free speech zone marked off with orange cones where I took these last four pictures. After the press conferance, on their way out, the reporters would drop by and ask a question or two. I was probably in the background of a couple of those shots.

The Ragning Grannies were inside the event for most of the time, only getting thrown out at the last minute for unfurling their banner and chanting. Click their picture to see their chants.

Finally hotel security dropped by to tell us AG Gonzalez was gone, and leaving might be a good idea. I took the hint. It was very hot and I was almost out of water anyhow.

A week later I found out Grannie Ruth had written an article about the event. Read that by clicking here.
