The scene on South First Street was
interesting, but I wasn't really ready to take any pictures until I saw
this tire biter going after somebody's bike. Then I noticed there were
also other weird aliens doing strange things.
I think autonomous clothing is the
brain child of one or more bike party regulars that want to deveop a
local brand of their own. Whatever the truth is, their booth was a good
contact point for bike party types. They were between monkeylectric.com
and bikeglow.com, which made the area kind of a "bike party zone". Even
more so because the theme of the bike party was going to be "light your
bike".
The fine print below SILICON VALLEY on
that magazine cover reads "where fashion is atomic". The guy between
the woman in yellow and the one in black behind the Helium table seems
to be the main guy there. I talked to him a bit, he's more of a fashion
type than a laws of physics type. The "elements" in the elemental
fashion show were earth, ice, water, fire, and power. The pictures were
very well done, which made it a visual treat to leaf through the thing.
A good
magazine to kick off at a grass roots art celebration.
That hairless cat was getting lots of
attention from people that noticed it.
I realized that all of a sudden bikes
were few and far between. I went to what I thought was the rendevous
for the begining of the bike party ride, but it was long gone. There
was a bird telling bicyclists that showed up "Go to Cesar Chavez Plaza
and wait for the regroup there." Click above to see what happened from
that point.
After I got back from the ride, it was
quite dark. The scene had changed a lot. There were bands playing at
both ends of the street, and the whole thing was a lot more happening.
There was a mysterious group called the yarn bombers that were using
their knitting skills to strike art into the soul of the gathering. I
saw several things like this "bombed" tree.
In the foyer of the quilt museum this
morroccan restaurant was handing out samples of their lentils and
salad. I can assure you it was delicious food.
I'd say knitting is more sustainable
technology than the neon patterns I was seeing in the same general time
frame.
I think that monster with the blue skin
on his face is a bandersnatch. The guy with the net and the vorpul
blade was going after it. I didn't really hang around long enough to
get the whole plot, but it did seem like there was an Alice In
Wonderland theme to what was happening.
I tried the hula hooping, but I'm just
not very good at it. Lots of people had fun with that area though.
