Charlotte emailed this picture of the start of the march to me. I was in the crowd somewhere else, taking pictures on a floppy that my computer can't read at all now. The air was chilly, but everybody was warm and friendly. As we moved along, occasionally a cheer would spontaniously move through the crowd like a wave on the ocean. There were so many people that I couldn't see from one end to the other.

There were lots of cool signs on the march. Things like an attractive woman with a great smile in a cowboy hat carrying a sign that said WAR IS TERRORISM. Unfortunately, that floppy must have had playa dust in it or something, because my computers think it is uninitialized now. My old friend TheHumorNurse took note of the ones she liked, and you can see her list by clicking on the GO RAIDERS sign above.

Once we got to Civic Center Plaza it wasn't over. Wandering around people had left all sorts of political art sitting in the street to be photographed. If you can imagine, the guy lying down in front of the tank with the Isreali flag looks a lot like Uncle Sam.

I didn't see anybody trying to sell T shirts announcing "We are all Isrealis." This woman was doing a brisk business, selling the same thing she was wearing in your choice of black, white, or green.

The banner in Peter's hands is unfurled at the top of this page. The rest of the people in this picture are also Santa Clara County Greens that were in the march. The crowd was so big I didn't run into any of them at the event, even though I know all of them well. Found out they were there when Charlotte emailed this picture to me.

This couple was in front of a backdrop that said YANKEE GO HOME! There were many other booths there, but that one struck me for some reason. Now I'm wishing I had asked them what their stuff was all about.

These buttons were on the only person that got two stickers from me that day, one for herself and one for a friend. She was also my last customer of the day.

The slogan on the bandito's black T shirt read "THE CHOKE'S ON US", over a picture of mother earth wearing a gas mask. The buttons were all for punk bands, none of which I recognised. There were a lot of youngsters with bandanas like that. Most of the ones I talked to were the kind of people I would call "good kids". They gave the place a neat revolutionary quality. That stone hanging from the yarn around her neck had the word peace on it in some language. Click her picture to find out more about it.

Would you believe there were Homeland Security officials in the crowd?

There were at least a couple of those big doves in the march. The other thing in this picture that I have seen a surprising number of times is the icon on the guy in the foreground's shirt. It seems to be part of everybody's experience for some reason.

I like this shot of San Francisco City Hall framed by a peace sign. It's hard for me to look at the building without thinking "there's at least one Green with an elected office in there." I don't know where the ones on the school board have their offices....
