Many months ago Cindy
Sheehan had put out the call to get letters calling for the Impeachment
of George Bush and Dick Cheney. She said that she would personally
deliver them to Pelosi's office. This was the day. We started with a
bit of grandstanding with cool signs.
Cindy explained that they had about
eight thousand individual letters and more than three thousand
signatures on petitions. Since Pelosi is Speaker of the House, she has
a responsibility to respond to national issues like the need for
impeachment of the current occupant of the White House. Cindy hoped
that this pile of letters would get the point across. If that doesn't
work, Cindy promised to be on the ballot running against Pelosi in the
Fall Election.
Jesse Johnson, this Minister, and
Cynthia McKinney all spoke in favor of impeachment and in support of
Cindy Sheehan's work. The minister explained how Pelosi's back room
dealings were cleansing the Black community out of the Hunters Point
neighborhoods where they have lived for generations.
There were lots of reporters recording
the event. I think most of them represent websites and blogs.
Just in case anybody
missed the constitutional nature of the problem, Cindy read Article
two, section four of the Constitution to us, which CLEARLY says it is
Congresses job to Impeach and remove from office the President and
other Officers of the United States for "treason, bribery, or other
high crimes or misdemeanors." She also reminded us of some of the
crimes by mentioning privacy invasions, Guantanamo, and the illegal war
in Iraq.
Brad said "See you at
Beach Impeach 5 -- Saturday, April 26th, Ocean Beach, San Francisco.
Helicopter(s) overhead at 11 a.m. sharp."
Let's be there!
P.S. Cindy Sheehan wrote a great editorial just a few days later.
