Gerry and Dana talked me into going up to San Francisco to help get Cindy Sheehan on the ballot to run against Nancy Pelosi. When we got there everybody but the manager was out in the field already, so there weren't many people around to take pictures of. I took pictures of some of the things around the office instead.

The district is all of San Francisco except that red zone. It's the only Congressional District completely contained in the City and County of San Francisco.

There were a few other reminders of Casey Sheehan, but these captured the essence for me.

This was the manager. It didn't take her long to decide to send us out to help Frank at the 24th St. BART station. She also told us that everybody that can help is already out there. Somebody is at the rally against attacking Iran. Somebody else is at the single payer healthcare rally. She told us about several other places where volunteers were out there. It sounded like a real campaign was going on.

Around the corner from Cindy's office is The Bike Kitchen. It's a place where volunteers rehab bikes to get them back on the road. If you need your bike fixed and are willing to do the work yourself but don't know how they will train you and let you use their tools. It's also a good place to donate a bike that needs a bit of work to be useful. While I listened to the guy that was running the place tell me about it I got a strong feeling it was a spiritual place.

Most of the time I was helping out I was just finding voters that hadn't signed the petition that were willing to sign. Occasionally I talked to others. For example, this guy is from Kansas (or was it Nebraska?) and is just learning about San Francisco. He figured that Candidate he is helping doesn't need any publicity on a third party website, but he wanted his picture taken anyhow.

I thought this ad in the BART station was great. There were several others in the same vein.

I don't remember those bike racks near the turnstile being there a few years ago...

When we handed in our signatures the manager was optimistic that Cindy would be on the ballot, but she needs to get every signature possible by the deadline the coming Friday. The campaign needs to turn in 8700 valid signatures. They handed in 13,000 the previous Friday, but the Registrar hadn't certified them yet. The campaign can only improve the odds by gathering signatures, so that's what they are doing. The alpha male that was hanging around the office thought coming up all week long to help out would be a great idea. As I type this I'm thinking I should go help some more...
