We began as a small group at the corner of El Camino and Embarcadero, vigiling for impeachment of Bush and Cheney. Once there were a dozen of us or so, we marched up to Martin Luther King Jr. Plaza in Palo Alto, where there was already a show in progress.

The Raging Grannies were singing out for peace and impeachment.

Paul George said a few words of thanks for the work of the Raging Grannies and then introduced former Councilwoman LaDoris Cordell, who had recently been on the Palo Alto City Council. After she spoke Samina led us in a silent prayer for peace.

Reverend Diana Gibson spoke about being arrested in front of the White House with some other religious leaders while praying for peace. On another lobbying trip to DC she got arrested in the Hart Senate Office Building for praying for peace with another diverse group of religious leaders.

Of all the signs I saw, that Foreign Policy one most graphically illustrated the history of the last fifty years or so.

Julia read off a list of 5th anniversary of the beginning of the current Iraq war protest vigils and speak out meetings. There were a lot, including ones in Mountain View, Los Altos, Palo Alto, Sunnyvale, and San Jose. She urged everyone to go to at least one this coming Wednesday, and to bring a friend or two.

Phil talked about the work of the local Veterans for Peace chapter.

Peter Myers was working the crowd talking about his congressional campaign. He is running for the Green Party nomination to battle with Mike Honda.

Karen talked about how horrible it was to lose her son in Iraq, and how horrible it is lo learn on the news that the same thing is happening to other mothers almost every day. She said that we must find a way to change Congress so it listens to the majority of the American people that want us out of Iraq.

The closing act was this great New Orleans style blues band led by Kenny Neal that really made me want to move my ass. He had several friends that came up for one song, but I didn't take pictures because I was enjoying the occasion too much.

Food not Bombs was there, thanks to John and Melanie.

The group that marched back to Embarcadero & El Camino wasn't quite as large as the one that came to the rally, but at least I got a group shot this time. If you look closely at the woman sitting on the peach with the USS Constitution floating on her head, you can see that she has Nancy Pelosi's face. Lots of people honked as they drove by us.
