One of the big
seasonal things around here is looking at the Christmas lights on
Christmas Tree Lane. Martin organized a crew to ride the buscycle to
the event. I signed up. He wanted some people to show up early to
decorate the buscycle for the event. He had plenty of neon glow wire,
and others brought things like Christmas trees and ornaments. By the
time we started pedaling our ride was as tricked out as any of the
lawns.
Usually when the
buscycle does something it's just the buscycle. This time there was
also a pair of exotic vehicles in the caravan, and a crew of bicycle
escorts.
Unwheeldy, the one
with the nine foot diameter wheels, was easy to pedal but difficult to
steer. Each wheel is pedaled by one of the riders, so it steers like a
tank. What this means is to go straight forward both riders have to
pedal at the same general speed. I found out about the pitfalls of this
by taking a turn riding it.
I wanted to get a
good side view shot of the buscycle, from pedaling unwheeldy. This is
the best one I got before the oops where I accidentally broke one of
the spokes on the big wheel when it got tangled with the pedals of the
buscycle. After that I got demoted to buscycle pedaler for the rest of
the evening.
When we got to
Christmas Tree Lane we couldn't just go down it. A water main had
broken, so we had to go around to the other end and backtrack to see
the lights. To make a long story short, we did that. It took a lot of
pedaling.
On the way home we
stopped to sing happy birthday for the guy in the red coat.
That's the moon
peeking out from between the glow wire strands above me as I pedaled.
I could have taken a lot of pictures
this crisp if I hadn't been pedaling the buscycle all evening...
