The Mountain View Voices for Peace, the Los Altos Voices for Peace, a few of our friends from other places and somebody from Global Exchange gathered on the corner of Castro & El Camino for a holiday peace vigil on the 2nd Friday in December, 2008. Ruth began the organized portion of the event by announcing that the theme this year would be fair trade. Click above to see the lyrics for some of them.

Not many were carrying signs. The crowd was maybe two dozen, mostly peace activists for whom the event doubled as a holiday party of sorts.

Mike spoke on behalf of the MVVP, welcoming us, reminding us of the many vigils the corner had hosted, and sharing his hopes for a better future under the Obama Administration.

After everyone with something to say did their thing, the Mountain View Voices for Peace made a statement by posing with these signs that read "I STAND WITH OBAMA FOR AN END TO THE WAR IN IRAQ".

Then the Los Altos Voices for Peace did the same thing.

Maybe half an hour later the Raging Grannies did another set at the Red Rock, kicking off some church based open mike evening.
